Zipscreen Outdoor Blinds - History

Acmeda is and has been Australia’s largest design and manufacturing company for supplying systems or components for the blind industry. In 2015, Acmeda joint venture with the US company: Rollease to become the Rollease Acmeda. Now, they have been well known worldwide for their mix of tip-top quality, flexible designs as well as budget-friendly cost. Back before Rollease Acemda was formed, Acemda offered only an internal Zip Block Out Roller Blind system often called Shy Zip, With the success of ZipTrak Outside Blinds, Acemda decided to design something similar to their competitor product using the same Zip Based ZLock technology used in Shy Zip’s Internal System.

Zipscreen’s version 1 was released 5 years ago. Approximate 1 year later, a number of small issues were found after their first release especially relating to the top funnel system, Therefore soon after they release Version 2 which solved the issue completely.

Ziptrak Outdoor Blinds - History

a South Australian company manufactured Roller Shutter and External Sun Shading Systems designed and founded ZipTrak blinds. Ziptrak was designed to solve the problem of people not wanting gaps in between their blinds as well as easy to operate.

Back then, it was a very niched and looked agricultural as it was made from used parts already in the marketplace. Since then, the designer has improved parts and designs specifically around ZipTrak’s brackets and plastic components. Manufactures recognised needed a system like ZipTrak and the owner offered it to the market.

Ziptrak blinds are often misnamed as ZipTrack Blinds, ZipTrack out door blinds, Zip Trak Blinds. All of them are registered product, Strangely the Ziprak product does not actually does not have any Zip or Zippers

Zip vs Kedar

ZipScreen

Zipscreen inner Channel

The Zipscreen blind is held into the channel by a small zip. This is called Zlock technology. Note that there is no actual zipper, only one side of a 5mm Zip. The zip is high frequency welded to the fabric and comes only in Black or Cream. The zip is slightly more slippery than the Kedar so the operation of the blind is a little lighter in fair conditions. However, the zip has a tendency to jam or stick more easily when under wind pressure. This can make it stick more when motorised.

ZipTrak

ZipTrak Inner Channel

The Ziptrak blind is held using a Cordura tape often called Kedar. This Kedar is high frequency welded to the fabric (not stitched as it looks ugly). This Kedar comes in 4 colours: White, Beige, Primrose and Black. The black has a tendency to fade slightly so ends up looking like a dark charcoal colour. This Kedar is very strong and can withstand a lot of force which means the Ziptrak Fabric is held tightly in the channel.

Hold Down Locks

ZipScreen

Zipscreen Bottom Bar

Zipscreen only offers a slide bolt bottom lock. It can be generally used inside or outside but some installations restrict the placement. This can mean that a user needs to go outside of the patio or verandah area to operate and lift the blinds.

ZipTrak

ZipTrak Centre Release

Ziptrak Straight Drop blinds offer a great range of hold-down options including an easy-to-use centre release lock. Their range of Centre release locks or channel locks can be operated from inside or outside. This helps to achieve maximum usability in a range of difficult installations. Both products use small rubber seal strips along the bottom rail to help reduce gaps.
